If there is one thing harder than making stained glass it is repairing stained glass! Often glass, especially in doorways may get damaged by an impact or by the passage of time and effects of wind slamming. Often the lead is intact but the solder joints between the lead came strips has broken. I am extremely experienced in the repair and renovation of glass and normally can locate the same glass or at least an extremely close match to ensure that the repair is as near to invisible as possible.

Costs for repair obviously vary depending on the amount of work required and also whether the work can be carried out in location or whether the it needs to be taken to the workshop for repair. For example a door panel that needs basic lead repair on site; rebending flat, many joints resoldering and a new support bar installed will cost between around £180 to £280. For a single visit I do charge for my travel time one way and time on site at a rate of £48ph. If multiple panes are broken then this cost can increase or it may require the panel being removed back to the workshop. If multiple trips are required to take away, repair and return glass then these will be charged at the standard studio rate of £42ph plus travel.

Often a big factor in a repair is ease of access, so do make sure that you have any details that relate to this e.g. an inaccessible roof, trees next to a window, need for access to neighbours garden etc. If the situation is an emergency then I will endeavour to come and make safe, even if the repair needs to take place at a later date, due to weather for example. It is very sad when a sagging or broken panel could have been saved with a more prompt response.

I can normally assess quite accurately from good photos which can be emailed to me prior to a visit so a ballpark figure can be estimated in advance.
